Brent Martin of Ryco Dies Ltd, Auckland, was one of six Apprentice of the Year finalists on stage at the Pride In Print Awards on Friday 16 May. Brent is the 2007 Paperboard Packaging Apprentice of the Year, sponsored by NZPPA. He picked up his certificate and prize at the PrintNZ Training Apprentice Awards Breakfast on 16 May, in front of 80 print and packaging industry members. Brent was delighted to be named as the top paperboard packaging apprentice. "When I started my working life I never dreamed I would be in this position. Winning this award has made me feel proud of myself and given me the confidence to succeed and take on new challenges. "Having just completed my apprenticeship, I feel I need to increase my knowledge and skills that I have already gained over five years of being in the paperboard packaging industry. I definitely want to stay working within the industry.” Brent completed his carton forme making apprenticeship last year. Once he has gained more experience, he has plans to eventually move into a supervisory/leadership role.
