January 2010

Happy New Year
Welcome to the first edition of News from the Field for the new year and the new decade!  PrintNZ has a busy year ahead continuing to promote and assist the industry as we climb out of the recession that has seen a lot of changes in our industry over the past year.

In addition to continuing our day to day services we have two key projects for 2010:

1.  'Part of Life' Campaign - we will shortly launch this major campaign to start raising the awareness of print with both print buyers and consumers.  This project will be ongoing and will require the support of the industry to ensure that we maximise its potential.    There will be three main phases:

  •  Engaging the industry to gain support for the campaign and signing up businesses, organisations and individuals as Print Champions
  • A print buyer campaign to encourage greater use of print in the total communication mix
  • A consumer campaign to positively shift the perceptions of print.

We already have more than 60 Print Champions signed on - and it is our goal to have 500 by the end of June.  Our Membership Services team will be talking to members on their first round of visits to explain why everyone should be a part of this broad reaching campaign.

For further information about the campaign or to become a Print Champion please email printchampion@printnz.co.nz

2.  PrintNZ Conference 2010 - 11 - 13 October at Wairakei
We are pleased to confirm our Principal Sponsors for the 2010 PrintNZ Conference which will be held again in Wairakei, and promises another extraordinary line-up of speakers to inform and educate.  Fuji Xerox, Heidelberg, Hostmann Steinberg and Spicers Paper are committed to making this a first class event.

The conference will follow a similar format to our previously successful events, and will cover a range of topics that will include management, sales and production elements of business from both international and local speakers. Following a long period of rationalisation and change this conference is a chance to take a fresh look and move forward.

We will keep you updated as our speaker list develops.  If you have any queries at all please email ruth.cobb@printnz.co.nz  In the meantime mark it in your diary.

This is an ideal opportunity for you and your staff to hear from the consultants and the printing companies that have taken this on in their businesses and the improvements that have been made.

At a cost of only $120.00 for members for two days, this is an ideal chance to find out what you can do in your workplace. To enrol click here or if you wish to know more contact joan.grace@printnz.co.nz

PrintNZ fights to reduce ACC Levy Increases
Last year substantial increases to the ACC levies for 2009/10 were proposed with increases for the printing industry of nearly 100%.  PrintNZ put a submission in to ACC to have these reduced citing the large improvements made to health and safety practices within our industry.  On 24 November the recommendation for revised levies was made and while these still represent a further increase in costs for all businesses, they are less than originally announced.  The new rates for printing are as follows:

Current

1st Proposed

Reviewed Rate

Standard Levy

41 cents

70 cents

63 cents

Pre 1999

60 cents

75 cents

43 cents

At the same time there will be an increase in the ACC levies paid by workers through the PAYE system (+65%) and by motorists through licensing and petrol (+38%).
