Conference - 11-13 October, Wairakei Resort, Taupo
Plans are almost finalised for this event and we have secured a range of speakers that will ensure there is something for everyone.  The full speaker bios will be available later this week but in the meantime you can download a registration form here and an accommodation booking form here.

The conference will follow the Part of Life theme and has four main streams:

·         Business

·         Technology

·         Sales/Marketing

·         Lean and Green

To provide a taste of what is available our five keynote speakers are:

#1 Peter Muir, Bizucate - Changing Technology and the Printing Industry
Peter comes from the US and has held a variety of roles in the printing industry.  He is committed to people, education and technology and linking them together to form successful businesses.  Peter will speak about changing technology, how it is best used and what challenges it can bring to the industry.

#2 Gareth Kiernan, Infometrics - The NZ Economy:  Looking Forward For You and Your Customers
Gareth's presentation will provide his usual commentary on the world and local economies, but in addition he will provide a New Zealand context focusing on what is happening in specific markets which are big customers of the printing industry such as retail and tourism.

#3 Nigel Keats, OMD - Business Resilience for the Printing Industry
Nigel is the Managing Director of OMD and New Zealand's most awarded media person.  His presentation will cover history and trends in the communications area and the impact for the printing industry.  He will talk about what business resilience means and how some companies have adapted (or not) to the challenge of change.

#4 Clinton Yeats - Lean Thinking
Clinton is New Zealand's most sought after "Lean Thinking" expert and he has been working closely with a number of printing companies over the last two years.  Clinton's presentation will focus on the need for productivity improvements in the workplace and how these can be achieved.

#5 Phil Lawrence - Two Years On
Phil returns following his thought provoking session at our last conference in 2008 to provide an update on environmental issues affecting our industry.  He will also look at the big picture including the environmental and political interface - what it means, how it works and the best way to respond.

In addition there are a number of workshops that you can attend between the Keynote speakers and they will present on a range of topics that fit within the four main streams.

Part Of Life Campaign continues to grow

The website is now active so go on and have a look at www.partoflife.co.nz  The website gives you full details about the campaign and provides information about the good work our industry does and why print is an important part of everyday life.

Take a look at the Print Champions page by clicking on this image - the number of Print Champions is growing every day but we still need more to ensure that we continue to have a strong and vibrant print industry.  If you are not already a Print Champion you can become one by clicking here to download a registration form.  For the price of $200 this gives you access to the full range of resources that have been developed for the campaign and gets you a listing on the Print Champions page with a link to your own website.

We now have over 180 Print Champions signed up and need to keep growing this number so please take a look and support the future of our industry. Remember this campaign is about promoting the industry as a whole.

Helen Kirk in our Wellington office and Pam Seymour from our Auckland office will both be focusing time each week on working on the campaign and will be making contact with current and potential Print Champions to help drive action.

GST Increase - New Calculation
When GST goes up to 15% on 1 October it is going to be slightly more complicated to work out the GST portion of an all inclusive price.  At the moment you simply divide by 9, but from 1 October the new equation will be multiply by 3 and then divide by 23.

E.g. an item costs $1000 + GST @ 15% = $150    Total cost $1150

Working in reverse:  Total cost $1150 x 3 = $3450 ÷ 23 = $150.00 (GST content)

Also Increasing on 1 October...

New Zealand Post announced this week that postage would go up on 1 October with a standard letter moving from 50 cents to 60 cents, large moving from $1.00 to $1.20 and extra large moving from $1.50 to $1.80.  Hint:  KiwiStamps purchased at the old rate before 1 October will still be valid at that rate after the increase i.e. you will still only need 1 Kiwistamp to post a standard letter without having to add an additional 10 cent stamp.  So if you use a lot of stamps get in and purchase them before 1 October.
