Postage rates go up on 1 October this year and
this will have an impact not only on your business but also on all of
your customers' businesses. Prepaid envelopes printed and paid
for at the old postage rates before 1 October will continue to be valid
after that date so for those of you that print envelopes make sure you let
your customers know that they can defer the effects of that increase a
little bit longer. Start printing....

The Scams Continue
Unfortunately we continue to see a number of
scams hit companies in our industry. They have got a little more
sophisticated but on the whole continue to follow a similar line and still
have the common thread of requesting printing of brochures or flyers for
either religious or child welfare organisations. The telltale
signs are that the email accounts are free and untraceable i.e. gmail,
yahoo or hotmail; the wording is often in poor English and the artwork
supplied will usually be simplistic and poor quality. They will offer
to pay by credit cards which are invariably stolen.
Printing Industries Australia run a very good
Scam Watch section on their website that lists the latest scams and
iincludes a Find A Scammer section where you can check names/email
addresses against their database of scammers. Click here to link through.

GST Increase - New
Calculation
When GST goes up to 15%
on 1 October it is going to be slightly more complicated to work out the
GST portion of an all inclusive price. At the moment you simply
divide by 9, but from 1 October the new equation will be multiply by 3 and
then divide by 23.
E.g. an item costs
$1000 + GST @ 15% = $150 Total cost $1150
Working in
reverse: Total cost $1150 x 3 = $3450 ÷
23 = $150.00 (GST content)
